Choosing the carton
Shipping or retail
A shipping carton protects in transit and is usually unprinted inside. A retail carton carries the print and is opened by the customer.
Folding or rigid
Folding cartons ship flat and cost less per unit. Rigid cartons hold their shape and are assembled by hand.
Board weight
Folding board runs 300-500 g. Lighter board suits small retail items; heavier board keeps a printed surface flat and the carton rigid on the shelf.

- Thick cardboard

- CMYK / Pantone
- Printing
- Process colour or a matched spot colour, printed outside and inside on request.
- UV on metallic
- Printing
- UV printing on special art paper — silver or gold cardboard — for cosmetic boxes. The metallic stock shows through the ink.
- Gloss / matte / soft touch
- Lamination
- A film laid over the printed sheet. Gloss lifts colour, matte hides fingerprints, soft touch gives a velvet feel.
- Foil / emboss / texture
- Finishing
- Hot foil stamping, emboss and deboss, and textured stock. Each is a separate die and a separate pass.
- 100 pcs / 22 kg
- Packing
- 100 pcs per carton as a reference, kept under 22 kg. Above that carriers charge an overweight fee on the freight line.

- Minimum order
- Per size and per print. Larger runs reduce the unit cost.
- Flat
- Delivery
- Side-seam glued in our workshop and shipped flat, so freight carries several times the volume of assembled cartons.
Production steps
From artwork to a flat-packed carton.
Every order runs this route through our own workshop. The steps are also the order the cost lines appear in a quote.
1. Printing
Sheet-fed offset. CMYK or Pantone, run against an approved proof.
2. Lamination
Gloss, matte or soft touch film over the printed sheet, applied before die-cutting so the cut edges stay clean.
3. Finishing
Hot foil, emboss, deboss or texture. Each is its own die and its own pass over the sheet.
4. Gluing
The die-cut blank is folded and side-seam glued, then packed flat. This is the step that decides whether the carton squares up.
5. Packing
Counted, bundled and packed flat into the shipping carton, kept under 22 kg per carton.
