Wholesale · Glossary
Sixteen terms buyers meet in every packaging quote — board, structure, print and quality — defined the way we use them on the factory floor.
Board and material
Four terms that decide cost, feel and print quality.
The dense core of a rigid box, typically 1,200 g per square metre, wrapped in art paper for print. Heavier products go up to 1,500 g.
A coated print paper, typically 157 gsm, wrapped over greyboard or mounted to folding boxboard. It carries CMYK, Pantone, foil and lamination.
Corrugated flute profiles. E-flute is around 1.5 mm thick with a smoother surface for print; B-flute is around 3 mm with more cushioning for transit.
Unbleached brown paperboard with a natural finish. Stronger per gram than coated board and recyclable — the honest look many brands ask for.
Structure
Three terms that describe how a box is built.
How far the lid walls of a two-piece box overlap the base walls. Full depth covers the base height; a partial depth saves board but shows a lip.
The flat, cut-and-creased template of a box before folding. It shows the cut lines, the score lines, the glue tabs and where the print sits.
A pressed line in the board that lets it fold without cracking. Scores sit where the dieline changes direction.
Printing and finishing
Six terms for how the surface gets its look.
Four-colour process print — cyan, magenta, yellow and black. The standard for full-colour artwork on boxes and bags.
A spot-colour matching system, used when a brand colour must be exact across every component. We print to your Pantone reference and confirm the colour on a signed sample.
A metallic or pigmented film pressed onto the board with a heated die — the classic way to make a logo read as premium.
A gloss coating applied to selected areas of a printed sheet, raised against a matte background.
A printed sheet glued to corrugated board, used when full-colour artwork is needed on a corrugated substrate.
A matte film that adds a velvet feel to the wrapped surface and resists fingerprints.
Quality and compliance
Three terms buyers meet at inspection and customs.
Acceptable Quality Limit — the sampling standard behind an inspection. A defined number of units is checked, and the lot passes or fails on the defects found. Every order is inspected to AQL before it leaves our floor.
The factory can supply chain-of-custody certified board on request. The certification applies to the volume purchased, not as a blanket factory claim — tell us what your market needs and we confirm what applies to your order.
The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, which sets recyclability, reuse and labelling requirements for packaging placed on the EU market. It shapes material and label choices for EU-bound orders.
